 Strong Era

For the first time in his life, Roderick Strong understands what it means to have something — or someone — worth fighting for.
Strong had his share of obstacles to overcome, including a messy home life. That’s why he spent his upbringing escaping to the wrestling ring set up in his backyard. Now with a family of his own, Strong spends his time in the squared circle for an entirely different reason: to give his son the life he never had.
A seasoned veteran of sports-entertainment, Strong traveled around the world for decades plying his craft, becoming an international star in the process. Armed with an encyclopedic knowledge of devastating backbreakers, he’s left a pile of broken men in his wake wherever he goes. READ MORE

Undisputed ERA’s Roderick Strong sent shockwaves through the EVOLVE Wrestling locker room over the weekend when he issued a challenge to EVOLVE Champion and fellow NXT Superstar Fabian Aichner on Twitter.

Now, WWE.com can confirm that Strong will not only receive at title opportunity at EVOLVE 117 on Saturday, Dec. 15 in Queens, N.Y. — facing Aichner and previously scheduled challenger Austin Theory in a Triple Threat Match — but the NXT Tag Team Champion will also face one of the sport’s most fearless risk-takers, Darby Allin, the next night at EVOLVE 118 in Deer Park, N.Y.

Strong called out Aichner via a tweet on Saturday while commenting on the recent trend of NXT Superstars competing in EVOLVE. NXT’s Italian Roughneck, who captured the EVOLVE Title in October, didn’t wait long to respond, accepting the challenge the next day:

Strong’s statement also caught the attention of Theory, who was already scheduled to challenge Aichner at EVOLVE 117 on Dec. 15. In his reply, Theory reiterated his goal of leaving Queens with the EVOLVE Title, regardless of Strong’s championship ambitions:

While Strong’s declaration earned him a spot in the Dec. 15 title match, it also drew a response from Allin, who has long been in the hunt for the EVOLVE Championship. Allin challenged The Messiah of the Backbreaker to a match on Dec. 16, leading EVOLVE to make the bout official for EVOLVE 118.

Additionally, EVOLVE has announced the full lineups for both New York events, listed below, featuring NXT’s Kassius Ohno and EVOLVE Tag Team Champions The Street Profits. Tickets for EVOLVE 117 and EVOLVE 118 are available now at WWNLive.com.

NXT Tag Team Champions Undisputed ERA vs. Oney Lorcan & Dan...
Published by: |   (0) Comments      Read MORE      Filed Under: Article, NXT TakeOver Preview

Undisputed ERA have vowed to “end the charade” of Oney Lorcan & Danny Burch’s NXT Tag Team Title ambitions at TakeOver: Chicago. Whether champions Roderick Strong & Kyle O’Reilly can make good on such a bold statement, however, won’t be known until the teams collide live on WWE Network on Saturday, June 16.

The double-tough tandem of Lorcan & Burch is riding a wave of momentum after joining forces with WWE U.K. Champion Pete Dunne to defeat Strong, O’Reilly and NXT North American Champion Adam Cole in a wild Six-Man Tag Team Match on May 16. Not only were Lorcan & Burch on the winning side in that encounter, but Burch scored the deciding fall by pinning O’Reilly, a feat that Lorcan & Burch believe sealed their status as Undisputed ERA’s next challengers.

Since forming their Brit-Am alliance last year based on the mutual respect that came out of their series of hard-hitting singles matches, Lorcan & Burch have emerged as one of the black-and-yellow brand’s grittiest duos. Yet, Undisputed ERA remain as brazen and confident as ever, claiming their loss in the Six-Man Tag Team Match was a fluke and insisting they’re out of Lorcan & Burch’s league.

Will Lorcan & Burch earn their first taste of championship glory in The Windy City, or can Undisputed ERA turn back their rough-and-tumble challengers and preserve their title reign? Find out when NXT TakeOver: Chicago streams live on the award-winning WWE Network on Saturday, June 16, at 8 ET/5 PT.

Two worlds, one Roddy: How Roderick Strong finds the balance bet...
Published by: |   (0) Comments      Read MORE      Filed Under: Article, WWE.com

Fresh off a four-day NXT Live Event tour of Canada, a confident Roderick Strong sat on a bench inside the locker room of the STAPLES Center in Los Angeles with a mile-wide smile etched across his face. Despite the jet lag and muscle soreness stemming from his NXT obligations and that night’s successful 205 Live matchup, Roddy’s joy reflected the improbable new path his career has taken.

“I’m tired, but feeling fantastic,” Strong told WWE.com while removing his wrestling boots. “I’ve worked so hard to prepare for opportunities like this, and I couldn’t be happier.”

Mere minutes removed from scoring an incredible victory over Kalisto to advance to the semifinals of the WWE Cruiserweight Championship Tournament, Strong had a chance to reflect on the sudden change that’s taken place over the last month of his career.

“It has been an honor to be part of the WWE Cruiserweight Championship Tournament so far,” Strong adamantly stated. “I knew I was bringing something to the table that 205 Live had never seen. I was bringing a new intensity, and I was bringing the best I had.

THERE IS NO ONE WHO CAN OUTWORK ME.
– RODERICK STRONG

“I’ve said it continuously in NXT: There is no one who can outwork me,” he added. “When you commit yourself to do the things I do, day in and day out, you firmly believe that opportunity will present itself. And because I train the way I do, I was prepared and victorious.”

With a first-round victory over familiar adversary Hideo Itami, followed by this past Tuesday night’s win over Kalisto, Strong is one step closer to not only the WWE Cruiserweight Championship, but also a chance to compete on The Grandest Stage of Them All, WrestleMania.

“I’ve strived my whole career to do this at the highest level, and being a champion in WWE would put a stamp on my legacy,” he said. “I’ve had to do some soul-searching at times. I reflect a lot, not on where I have been but where I want to go and how to get there. When you consider what I’ve had to overcome in life to even get here, it puts things into perspective. I believe my past setbacks are part of what it takes to build a champion. After all, how can you fully appreciate winning without knowing what it’s like to lose?”

With The Messiah of the Backbreaker continuing to divide his attention between his title aspirations on 205 Live and NXT for the foreseeable future, the question now becomes whether he can maintain his focus on both paths. According to Strong, his strategy is all planned out.

“I’ll keep my focus by waking up tomorrow morning, hitting the WWE Performance Center, outworking everyone in the room, studying film and applying myself at a level no one can handle,” he said. “The world has not yet seen the best version of Roderick Strong. Whether it’s 205 Live, NXT or WWE, I am the very best wrestler today and strive to prove that every time I walk down that ramp. I live with a championship mentality and strive for nothing less! It’s Roddy versus the world.”

NXT Preview: Will Roderick Strong or Tyler Bate earn a showdown ...
Published by: |   (0) Comments      Read MORE      Filed Under: Article, NXT Preview, WWE.com

Expect a classic this Wednesday on NXT when Roderick Strong battles Tyler Bate in a match to determine the next challenger to WWE United Kingdom Champion Pete Dunne.

Between Strong’s knife-edge chops and endlessly inventive backbreakers, and Bate’s belting strikes and textbook execution, this first-time matchup is guaranteed to be long on action. That it’s for a crack at The BruiserWeight’s U.K. Title will only heighten the intensity. Despite their many similarities inside the ring — fundamental expertise, a willingness to give and receive ferocious hits, bottomless gas tanks — Bate and Strong are approaching the opportunity from very different perspectives.

Bate gave Dunne the fight of his life last month in a U.K. Title Match but came up short of regaining the championship. A win against Strong would put the English prodigy back on track for another showdown with his familiar foe and potentially a second reign as U.K. Champion.

The veteran Strong, in contrast, is still in search of his first championship since joining WWE. If he were to advance past Bate and dethrone The BruiserWeight, The Messiah of the Backbreaker would not only accomplish that goal, but he would make history as the first American to win the U.K. Title.

Which Superstar will take the next step toward a WWE U.K. Championship Match? Find out this Wednesday when Bate and Strong go head-to-head on WWE NXT, streaming at 8/7 C on WWE Network.

NXT Preview: Can Roderick Strong topple Lars Sullivan en route t...

Roderick Strong and Lars Sullivan are vastly different Superstars. Yet, this Wednesday when they battle head-to-head on NXT, they have the same goal: to win and move on to the Fatal 4-Way No. 1 Contender’s Match.

The Messiah of the Backbreaker is a true underdog, battling his whole life to become one of the best in-ring grapplers in the world. He’s also a devoted family man who is fighting for his son and fiancée. Sullivan, on the other hand, has no family. The monstrous Superstars professed as much during his interview with the media on the Dec. 6 episode of NXT. Sullivan also is the furthest thing from an underdog.

Unbeaten in singles action since entering NXT, the 6-foot-3, 300-plus pound behemoth has destroyed his competition at every turn. With hands that look like they could squeeze the life out of a grizzly bear, Sullivan is a scary man. But, if there is a way to topple this giant, Strong may just be the Superstar to figure it out.

With a potential future opportunity to challenge Andrade “Cien” Almas for the NXT Title at TakeOver: Philadelphia on the line, the stakes are high for both Superstars.

See if Roderick Strong’s heart and desire will be enough to overcome the pure power and brute force of Lars Sullivan in their Fatal 4-Way No. 1 Contender’s Qualifying Match tonight on NXT.

The four singles matches will be: Kassius Ohno vs. Velveteen Dream, Aleister Black vs. Adam Cole, Killian Dain vs. Trent Seven and Roderick Strong vs. Lars Sullivan. Seven earned his way into the series of matches after winning a Battle Royal during an NXT Live event in Lakeland, FL.

NXT TakeOver: WarGames preview, Nov. 18, 2017: The battle lines ...

The highly popular WarGames Match is back, and it’s returning in the biggest way imaginable.

Tomorow night at NXT TakeOver: WarGames, the teams of SAnitY, The Undisputed ERA and The Authors of Pain & Roderick Strong will wage war inside the hellacious steel structure that surrounds not one, but two rings.

The WarGames Match is as barbaric as it is historic, dating back to the days of the NWA before becoming a staple in WCW. The unique and unforgiving contest features two rings, side-by-side, surrounded by a giant steel cage. At TakeOver: WarGames in Houston, each group selects one member to start the bout inside the cage, while the remaining team members are locked inside shark cages by the entranceway. After five minutes, the final two members from one team enter the match, giving that group a brief yet brutal advantage. Three minutes later, the second team’s members are released, followed by the final team’s competitors following another three-minute period. Once all nine Superstars are inside the ruthless steel structure, the first competitor to pick up a pinfall or submission earns the victory for his side.

This showdown has been months in the making, starting after Adam Cole, Bobby Fish & Kyle O’Reilly attacked NXT Tag Team Champions SAnitY and NXT Champion Drew McIntyre at TakeOver: Brooklyn III. The talented trio made it clear that they intended to shock the system of the black-and-yellow brand, and they did just that, shaking NXT to its very core. Their actions drew the ire of Eric Young, Alexander Wolfe & Killian Dain, who sought not only chaos, but retribution. However, it was the returning Authors of Pain, seeking their own payback from SAnitY for taking their titles, that would turn NXT into a warzone.

On the Nov. 1 episode of WWE NXT, all hell broke loose during SAniTy’s NXT Tag Team Title defense against The Authors of Pain as The Undisputed ERA interrupted the contest before Akam & Rezar could pick up the potential win. Adding to the mayhem was the arrival of Roderick Strong. For weeks, The Undisputed ERA had seemingly been recruiting Strong, but when The Messiah of the Backbreaker had convinced the trio he would join their ranks, he unleashed his own assault on them.

NXT General Manager William Regal had seen enough of the pure bedlam. At that point, he declared that SAnitY, The Undisputed ERA and The Authors of Pain & Roderick Strong would battle in a three-team WarGames Match in Houston.

With WarGames returning for the first time in more than 20 years, you can expect to see pain, chaos and, yes, a shock to the system. It all goes down at TakeOver: WarGames tomorrow night on the award-winning WWE Network.

Roderick Strong vs. Adam Cole

Just one week after turning down Undisputed ERA’s invitation to join them, Roderick Strong will battle Adam Cole in a huge showdown on NXT. After all hell broke loose last week during SAnitY and The Authors of Pain’s NXT Tag Team Title Match, Strong teased joining the rebellious group, only to end up attacking Cole, Bobby Fish & Kyle O’Reilly. As a result of the uncontrollable chaos, General Manager William Regal made a bombshell announcement that the WarGames Match would return at TakeOver: WarGames on Saturday, Nov. 18 and it would feature SAnitY vs. Undisputed ERA vs. The Authors of Pain & Roderick Strong.

With WarGames looming, The Messiah of the Backbreaker will see if he can prevail over the heralded Cole this Wednesday at 8/7 C on WWE Network. With this high-profile match being a one-on-one contest, will the rest of Undisputed ERA look to interfere and gain revenge on Strong after he turned them down? And if so, will The Authors of Pain make their presence known in defense of their WarGames partner?

Will the mayhem between these three groups continue to escalate as their historic showdown grows closer? Find out this Wednesday on NXT as Roderick Strong goes head-to-head with Adam Cole in a must-see matchup.

Roderick Strong Tweets That NXT Champion Bobby Roode Hasn’...

NXT Champion Bobby Roode turned back the challenge of Roderick Strong three weeks ago, but his problems with The Messiah of the Backbreaker aren’t over by a long shot.
Strong tweeted a photo this afternoon that included an image of Roode blowing a kiss to Strong’s family on July 5, moments after Roode narrowly defeated Strong in a thrilling NXT Title Match.
Though Strong was clearly heartbroken over the bout’s outcome, it was the champion’s unprovoked gestures toward Strong’s fiancée, son and mother, who were in attendance that night, that has The Messiah of the Backbreaker seeing red.
The reignited rivalry couldn’t come at a worse time for Roode. The Glorious One already has a new title contender lined up, with Drew McIntyre last week securing an NXT Title Match at Takeover: Brooklyn III. Now, thanks to Strong’s warning on Twitter, it appears that Roode has more than just the undefeated McIntyre to worry about.
